Bahamas shuts out US travelers
Americans will soon be banned from entering the Bahamas due to still spiking rates of Covid-19 infections.
The Bahamas reopened three weeks ago but is rolling back access for travelers from the US starting at midnight on Wednesday July 22.
Prime Minister Hubert Minnis made the decision due to the ‘exponential rate since we reopened our international borders.’
The Bahamas ministry of health said there have been 49 new cases since borders were reopened.
"Our current situation demands decisive action, if we are to avoid being overrun and defeated by this virus," Minnis said.
"We cannot allow our hospitals to be overrun. Many priorities must be balanced, be they health, social and economic."
Bahamasiar has stopped operating inbound flights from the US but will still have outbound services for tourists to get home.
Travelers from Canada, the UK, and Europe are still welcome with proof of a negative Covid-19 rapid test result.
