Travelers taking a vacation in Los Cabos and elsewhere in Baja California are set to pay a little more in tourist taxes.
The Embrace It tourist tax was increased for all 2026 trips, just a few months after the tax was first implemented.
It is valid for all visits to Baja California, including to destinations like La Paz and Todos Santos.
The Embrace It tourist tax came into force in July 2025 and revenues are used to fund statewide environmental protection initiatives, tourism related infrastructure and cultural projects.
From January 1, 2026, it went up from 470 to 488 Mexico pesos per traveler aged over 12 years.
According to tourism data, about 77% of overnight visitors paying the tax are from the US, while nearly 18% were from Canada.
The tax can be paid upfront on the Embrace It website or upon arrival.
“We are proud of the acceptance Embrace it has received among international visitors. Aggregated data confirm orderly behavior: payments made in advance, higher activity on weekdays, and stays with clearly defined patterns,” said Hugo Chapoy Córdova, Director of Revenue at Tourist Tax México.
Tourist Tax México is the company which operates and oversees the Embrace It platform.
