Balinese waiter held over nude cruise assault
Online cruise forums have been busy reacting to the sexual assault of an American women during a nude cruise
A Balinese crew member working onboard Holland America’s MS Nieuw Amsterdam is facing court in Florida after allegedly admitting to assault, rape and the attempted murder of the passenger on a cruise chartered by Bare Necessities Tour and Travel.
Bali Update (www.balidiscovery.com) reported that the 28-year-old from a village in north Bali delivered a breakfast tray to the cabin of a 31-year-old female passenger.
After knocking three times, the woman allegedly shouted, "Wait a minute, son of a bitch" – before opening the door and accepting her breakfast.
The man said the woman’s abusive comments were an insult to both himself and his family. He told investigators he returned to the woman’s cabin later that night and used a master key to gain access.
Police allege he choked, punched and then raped the woman.
The attack moved to the cabin’s balcony where, according to the criminal complaint, the Balinese waiter tried to throw the woman overboard.
Other passengers, concerned by the ruckus, pounded on the door of the cabin, causing the crewman to make his escape, scaling from balcony to balcony along the side of the ship’s exterior.
The woman was evacuated to Florida by air ambulance the following morning from a port in Honduras.
In a statement, Holland America said: "The safety of our guests is our highest priority, and we are shocked and deeply saddened by this incident. To our knowledge, no incident like this has occurred in our company’s 140-year history."
Cruise nudes have been quick to defend themselves in online forums. One couple, who were on the Bare Necessities cruise where the incident took place, told CruiseCritic: Almost EVERY major line has hosted a nude cruise.
"And NO, you can’t book one by accident and be surprised. We take the entire ship."
"NO, it is not a sex fest, we are beautiful on the inside not always on the outside. It’s not a sexy environment at all."
