Barrhead Travel expects weekend boom for US travel bookings

Brits are ready to travel stateside, thanks to the news that the US will open its borders to fully vaccinated travellers from 8 November.

Barrhead Travel says there has already been a marked surge in November and December enquiries and bookings as people look to take long-awaited American trips.

The group reported immediate growth in US enquiries when the announcement was first issued last month.

It has reported that New York, Orlando, Miami and Las Vegas have been amongst the top destinations with customers already beginning to secure bookings for travel before the end of the year.

NYC Christmas shopping breaks are selling well while sun-seekers are lining up Caribbean cruises departing from Miami.

With the announcement confirming the official date of opening, the travel group say they expect demand to spike and anticipate many people will firm up their travel plans this weekend.

Jacqueline Dobson, President of Barrhead Travel, said: "The announcement is music to the travel industry’s ears: the US market is significant for both inbound and outbound tourism, particularly in winter for outbound travellers."

"There was already a noticeable increase in enquiries to the US since last month and we fully expect this announcement to have a powerful impact on our pre-Christmas recovery."

Dobson noted that footfall had increased across their store network and believes that confidence is finally returning to the travel market:

"It’s wonderful to see our stores – and the general high street – starting to get busier. In travel, the Christmas period is traditionally quieter than other retail sectors, with January and February forming our peak booking season."

Barrhead Travel have US holidays available for travel in late 2021 starting from £759pp for a Christmas Shopping trip to New York.
