Beacon takes relationship with Green Tourism to a new level
BEACON TAKES RELATIONSHIP WITH GREEN TOURISM
TO NEW LEVEL
(15th June 2011) Fast on the heels of its successful sponsorship of the 2011 Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) Goldstar Awards held last week celebrating some of the most environmentally friendly businesses in the UK, Beacon Purchasing has announced a discount arrangement for all Green Tourism members seeking membership of the hospitality industry’s largest purchasing consortium.
Beacon will now offer 2 years’ membership for the price of one to hospitality operators – including hotels, B&Bs, hostels and campus accommodation — who hold GTBS certification at Gold, Silver or Bronze level, attesting to their commitment to the environment and sustainability. Reciprocally, Green Tourism has agreed to offer a 10 percent discount on its membership fees to Beacon members, which now number over 2,000 across the UK.
Diane Webster, Head of Marketing at Beacon, said, ‘As a purchasing business we believe we play a critical role in helping hospitality operators not only buy better but also to operate more profitably, which of course means operating more responsibly.
‘Our relationship with Green Tourism goes back a good few years now, starting from their involvement in the development of our own sustainability information website, www.beacongreenhotel.co.uk, and also through their work with our sister company, Best Western.
‘This is why strengthening our on-going collaboration with Green Tourism is very important to us and with this offer we hope to encourage those already committed to sustainability, through GTBS, to partner with us.’
Andrea Nicholas, Managing Director of GTBS, said, ‘Purchasing, whether food, drink, housekeeping supplies or energy, is clearly a very important area where any decision has a corresponding impact on the environment, good or bad. At GTBS, we see Beacon, a great friend and supporter of GTBS through the years, as a strong potential solution to our members’ need to buy responsibly. Also, we very much hope that even more Beacon members will decide to become members of GTBS.’
