Beckham to play in Sydney
An ABC report says that David Beckham is set to strut his stuff in Sydney, with Beckham and his new outfit Los Angeles Galaxy taking on Sydney FC in an exhibition match in Australia later this year.
Football Federation Australia has just completed negotiations for a clash to be staged at Telstra Stadium on November 27, with Sydney outbiding reigning A-League champions Melbourne to secure the game.
Acting New South Wales Premier John Watkins says the city has secured a great coup, saying, “I don’t think you get bigger sports stars than David Beckham, he’s really a monster on the world stage and where he goes the world’s media follows,” he said.
“It’s great for the soccer community of Sydney, it’s great for our tourism, and I think it is good for us as Sydneysiders that it’s once again the most important place for major world events when they come to Australia.”
Beckham agreed to join the Galaxy earlier this year and will be unveiled by the club on July 13 after completing his move from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
