Bed bank to launch flash sales
Kuoni-owned online bed bank TravelCube is launching weekly flash sales exclusively for travel agents.
Weekly discounts, based on the Groupon model, will be negotiated by TravelCube's sister company GTA and its hotel suppliers, each of which will be available on its website for seven days.
A spokeswoman said the first offers, available to agents who log into the TravelCube, would be 20% to 30% lower than its normal selling price. It is aiming to have three to five 'Weekly Bounce Deals' every week.
TravelCube's senior director Europe retail Doros Theodorou said: “We have seen the popularity of consumer retail sites such as Groupon, where users are becoming increasingly savvy to flash sales.
"We wanted to offer something unique to travel agents and TravelCube’s Bounce Deals offer travel agents heavily discounted offers and a commission in the process.”
The first flash sale launches today in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, offering discounts on three- to four-star hotels in London, Monaco and Bangkok. The TravelCube spokeswoman said the discounts were 40% to 50% lower than the hotels' rack rates.
