Bedbank consolidation to eliminate three players, says youtravel boss
Consolidation in the bedbank sector will see up to three players taken out in the next 12 months.
The prediction was made by youtravel.com chief executive John Kent who said deals would most likely come from companies outside the accommodation sector who would swoop on existing players or an operator looking to add resort accommodation to its inventory.
“It could be a big player in city product which is weak in resort accommodation or a tour operator who recognises the potential of dynamic packaging.”
Kent also said consolidation was more likely to come from rival companies than his own.
“When you start a business you have to have an exit plan and the reality is that we have a plan to float the business. There is no point in hiding behind it.”
Kent said youtravel is looking to more than double turnover to 150 million euros next year.
The company has opened up the service to new markets including France and Sweden recently and has a German site ready to introduce by the end of the year.
Kent also revealed the company will sign deals with two large companies before the end of the year opening up the service to even more agents.
A new version of the site with increased functionality is also on the cards in the next few weeks and Kent said youtravel is also looking at additional distribution channels.
