Belfast hotel “in world top 60″
After years of being viewed as one of the world’s trouble spots, the city of Belfast appears to be on the up with the news that one of its hotels has been voted among the world’s best. According to The Independent newspaper, the Malmaison in Belfast has been named among the 60 best places to stay in the world, in the Conde Nast Traveller “Hot List”. The hotel, which was one of only five in the UK to make the list, was reportedly praised for its stylish rooms, good food and friendly staff, and for attracting a “younger, trendier tourist crowd, rather that corporate visitors”. The newspaper reports that the accolade comes at a time when Belfast is seeing unprecedented success in tourism; visitor numbers have reportedly nearly doubled since 2000, with an 11 per cent increase last year alone. The other four UK hotels mentioned in the guide are the Cadogan and The Soho hotels, both in London, Drakes in Brighton, and Nottingham’s Dakota hotel.
