Bermuda responds belatedly to old news

Sunday, 26 Apr, 2011 0

In the “Don’t believe everything you read” department, Bermuda’s Department of Tourism has responded to a highly unfavorable of the island posted online nearly two years ago.

The posting, which appeared on travel website Tripadvisor, said the Island was rife with gang warfare, describing Bermuda as a “dirty rotten stink hole,” says the Royal Gazette newspaper in Bermuda.

The poster wrote: “Cost is about three times that of Canada & the USA. Service is horrible and the quality of everything is extremely low. I noticed garbage on the beaches also.”

“I was so glad when our airplane left Bermuda. I am glad we did not get hurt during our trip,” it went on.

The Department of Tourism responded to the review, which has been circulating around the Island, saying: “As with all popular destinations, there are times when visitors will express unfavorable opinions and this is unfortunate.”

The Tourism Department also noted that since the time of the posting, Bermuda has received extensive coverage locally and overseas that was far more favorable.
