Billion dollar hotel can’t pay electricity bill
Times are tough when a billion dollar hotel once crowned the “world’s leading luxury” property has its electricity turned off due to unpaid bills.
The Mardan Palace Hotel in Turkey received the luxury award from World Travel Awards. Rooms there typically are up to US$419 a night, according to Bloomberg.
Power at the hotel is being supplied by generators.
Legal proceedings to seize the hotel will be initiated if the hotel doesn’t pay bills of nearly $3 million within three weeks, Bloomberg says, citing a Turkish media report.
Running up the electricity bills: The hotel has the Mediterranean’s largest swimming pool, 10 restaurants, 11 bars and 546 rooms, including two royal suites with private pools.
The opulent hotel cost US$1.4 billion to build.
