Blast hits Turkish resort
Turkey’s biggest tourist resort has been rocked by an explosion.
Sky News reported that the blast happened yesterday in the harbour area of Antalya, known as the Turkish Riviera because of its archaeological and natural beauties.
A local teenager was killed and another was injured in the explosion, which was heard by crews aboard fishing boats miles away from the Mediterranean resort.
A 14-year-old Turkish boy has been taken to hospital injured, a local news agency said.
Police are investigating the cause of the explosion and Mujdat Ozcan, Antalya’s deputy police chief, told reporters that two people had been detained and were helping with inquiries into the incident.
The resort is especially popular with German and British tourists.
Turkey has suffered a series of bomb attacks in recent months, with Islamic radical groups, Kurdish separatists and left-wing militants among those blamed. Two hotels in Istanbul were targeted earlier this month, leaving two people dead and 11 injured.
