Boeing says it has no plans to ditch ‘Max’ name

Boeing has reiterated the ‘Max’ name is here to stay – at least for the time being.

It still has no plans to rebrand the beleaguered aircraft model even as reports suggest it will not take to the skies again until next year.

Images of a new Ryanair jet showed the 737 Max markings replaced by ‘737-8200’ leading to speculation the company could be ditching the ‘Max’ moniker.

Ryanair has orders for 135 Max aircraft.

The change on Ryanair’s livery is down to the airline itself, Boeing said.

"Our immediate focus is the safe return of the Max to service and re-earning the trust of airlines and the traveling public,” the plane maker said.

"We remain open-minded to all input from customers and other stakeholders, but have no plans at this time to change the name of the 737 Max."

President Donald Trump previously urged the company to change the name.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports the grounding will likely extend into 2020.
