Bombed Jakarta hotels reopen
JAKARTA – The Jakarta hotels struck by suicide bombers on July 17 have reopened
A spokeswoman for Marriott International, which manages both hotels, said, “We have resumed our normal business operations.
“We hope to be able to reach an average hotel occupancy of 60 to 70 percent like before, in spite of the bombings.â€
The spokeswoman added, “We have certainly increased our security measures, with some new approaches which I cannot tell you about as they’re confidential.”
The two main areas damaged by the bombs which killed seven people – a lounge in the Marriott and a restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton – remain closed.
Cars entering the Marriott yesterday were being checked by at least 10 security officers. Police dogs were present and visitors were being checked from head to toe.
