Bonus miles for United Airlines’ premium travelers
Following American Airlines’ recent move to offer more frequent flyer points for premium travelers, United Airlines is also rewarding its high flyers with bonus points.
From now through Feb. 28, premium travelers can earn up to 12,000 extra MileagePlus bonus miles on top of existing base accrual for long haul flights.
"It’s a way to reward customers and to show that we value them purchasing tickets in our premium cabins," said spokeswoman Karen May.
Bonus miles are eligible for premium- cabin tickets on United or United Express regional flights, along with United marketed flights operated by codeshare partners including Air Canada; ANA; Austrian; Brussels Airlines; Copa; Lufthansa and Swiss.
The day after the bonus period finishes, United’s new rewards system kicks in on March 1.
Under the new dollar-based program, fliers earn between five to 11 award miles for every dollar paid for flights including fees.
Like rival Delta Air Lines’ similar program, it favors high-paying premium travelers over infrequent economy leisure travelers.
