Boobs on Bikes goes ahead
The “Boobs on Bikes” parade that had made Auckland Mayor Dick Hubbard all shirty went ahead as planned yesterday, drawing an estimated 20,000-strong crowd.
Many of them were armed with the full range of cameras, from cellphones to videos.
Sex industry supremo Steve Crow led the parade with a topless woman in an open-top limousine followed by two tanks and about 20 high-powered motorbikes, some carrying women, all wearing crash helmets but precious little else.
Thousands of onlookers opted for a free eyeful of some of the flesh that will be on display at this weekend’s Erotica Expo, which the parade was promoting.
As the crowds grew, police issued radio appeals for people to stay away from the gridlocked central city.
Most of the crowd greeted the spectacle with good humour.
Mr Hubbard says the council will review bylaws in a bid to prevent any more topless parades. He termed Mr Crow an “egotistical, self-promoting porn king”.
