Boost for WA Tourism
Almost $1 billion worth of new tourism accommodation projects are in the planning or construction stages in Western Australia.
WA Tourism Minister Sheila McHale said the figure includes 56 projects already under construction across WA, with the potential to open up 2000 new rooms for visitors.
If all the projects materialise more than 5655 rooms would be added to the State’s visitor accommodation.
“There are $266 million worth of projects currently under construction across the State, which is a 28 percent increase on the same time a year ago,” Ms McHale said.
Tourism WA continuously monitors the level of private sector tourism development activity in WA and Ms McHale said the rise in accommodation developments was a good indicator of strong growth in the tourism industry.
Among the projects going ahead are the $2.5million Savannah Campground development in the Karijini National Park, the $12 million four-star Exmouth Marina Novotel Ningaloo in the Coral Coast region and the Medina Executive Barrack Plaza in the Perth metropolitan area
