Boracay tourist capacity breached over Easter
The Philippines Department of Tourism wants government intervention due to overcrowding on tourism hotspot Boracay. Local authorities were unable to stem a flood of tourists visiting for Holy Week, despite strict capacity limits.
The number of tourists arriving daily was over 20, 000, above the carrying capacity limit.
Limits were agreed and managed before Covid as part of Boracay’s 2018 rehabilitation plan.
