Brand USA gets new head after spending issues arise
CEO of Brand USA Jim Evans vacated his position after just one year on the job.
The move came after six US republican Senators sent a letter to the Corporation for Travel Promotion that was critical over alleged lavish spending.
The senators also asked Brand USA to submit documents outlining its spending and the results of its efforts.
"The agreement (to resign) was reached in consultation with the Board, and comes as the organization pivots from a start-up endeavor to securing its place as the nation’s destination marketing organization (DMO)," said a press release.
Brand USA is a first-ever national program with the mission of attracting billions of dollars in increased visitor spending to the US.
He was replaced by Caroline Beteta. She is CEO of Visit California, and a longtime industry veteran.
