Brazil tourism campaign targets London
A group of around 90 travel professionals have participated in a two-day ‘Brasil Junino Seminar’ at the Embassy of Brazil in London.
Designed to educate agents about lesser-known Brazilian tourist destinations, the seminar featured Amargosa (Bahia State), Aracaju (Sergipe State), Campina Grande (Paraiba State), Caruaru (Pernambuco State), Mossoro (Rio Grande do Norte State) and Sao Luis (Maranhao State).
The seminars are part of a cultural programme designed to promote Brazil by profiling some of its famous Festas Juninas, or June Festivals, the biggest festivity in Brazil after the famous Carnival.
Brasil Junino takes place this weekend (until June 4) at the Embassy of Brazil and is supported by live stage performances, traditional costumes and an exhibition that takes a closer look at some of Brazil’s largest and most spectacular festivals.
It is also taking to the streets of London, with a busy schedule of daily street performances acted out in some of the capital’s most famous public spaces.
It is supported by EMBRATUR, a federal, state-owned agency that reports to the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism and is responsible for providing of support and marketing expertise when it comes to promoting Brazilian tourism overseas.
In an earlier interview with TravelMole, EMBRATUR president Vinicius Lummertz outlined measures being taken by the Brazilian government to strengthen the country’s tourism.
These include deploying an electronic visa system by the end of this year for tourists coming from the US, Canada, Australia and Japan.
The Government is also planning to change the Brazilian Aeronautics Code so that 100% of the capital of Brazilian airlines will be opened up to foreign investment.
This is designed to increase the competitiveness of Brazilian airlines and expand the country’s regional and domestic flight network.
