British holidaymakers injured in fatal earthquake
A ‘handful’ of TUI clients were injured as a result of the earthquake that struck the Aegean earlier on Friday.
The operator said they suffered only ‘minor’ injuries during the earthquake, which caused damage to the Greek island of Kos and in the Bodrum area of Turkey.
In a statement, Thomson and First Choice said: "Following the earthquake which was felt in the Kos, Marmaris and Bodrum areas overnight, we are working closely with our teams in resort and the authorities to provide assistance to those affected.
"We can confirm that a handful of TUI UK customers have suffered some minor injuries."
Thomas Cook said it had no reports of any injuries amongst its guests. In a statement it said: "Our teams in the resort areas affected by the earthquake and in our customer centres are supporting customers currently on holiday in the region. We have no reports of any injuries and there is little impact on our hotels."
Some Kos flights were cancelled on Friday but were back to normal on Saturday. Ferry services are being diverted to other ports on the island after the main port was damaged.
