British hotelier feared murdered on Caribbean island
A multi-millionaire British hotelier is believed to have been murdered in St Lucia where his family own one of the island’s most exclusive hotels.
Oliver "Ollie" Gobat, whose family run the five-star boutique Cap Maison hotel on the northern tip of St Lucia, is thought to have been shot.
His body is understood to have been discovered in the burnt-out wreckage of a Range Rover on the island’s exclusive Cap Estate.
Police has not confirmed the dead man was Mr Gobat, aged 38, but Olympic decathlon gold medallist Daley Thompson, who had carried out fitness workshops at the Cap Masion hotel, paid tribute to him on Twitter.
Murder squad police said they had been trying to locate Mr Gobat who was reported missing by his family last Friday.
A post-mortem examination is due to be held later. A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are aware of reports and are looking into them urgently."
Mr Gobat was also the executive director of luxury resort The Landings Hotel St Lucia.
