British woman dies on round the world trip
A young British woman died after a freak accident in the South American jungle while on a round the world trip.
Louise Shepherd of Cobham in Surrey was crushed to death when a flash storm brought trees crashing on to the camp while she was trekking in the remote Madidi national park in Bolivia.
Ms Shepherd, who had been travelling with her sister and a college friend, had tried to run with them as the trees fell but she was hit by more than one.
A guide told the London Evening Standard it was a free accident that happened about 20 miles from the tourist centre Rurrenabaque.
The three women had been on a three-day trek in the upper Amazon river basin.
They had left the UK last November and travelled to New Zealand before continuing on to Central and South America.
