British woman stabbed in Albufeira resort

A British woman has reportedly been stabbed several times in the Portuguese holiday resort of Albufeira.

The 40-year old is in a critical condition and being treated at Faro hospital following the attack.

The suspected attacker, 22, was found shirtless and barefooted at a bus stop in the city in the Algarve region, according to ITV News, and is due to appear in court today.

The Foreign Office has confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to the woman following the attack.

A spokesman said: ‘We are aware of the hospitalisation of a British national on 29 May in Portugal. We are providing consular assistance.

"We are aware of the arrest of a British national on 29 May in Portugal. We stand ready to provide consular assistance."
