Briton attacked by croc in Cancun
A British holidaymaker has told how he was attacked by a 12-foot crocodile while playing golf at the popular Mexican resort of Cancun.
Dougie Thomson from Wishaw near Glasgow told the Daily Mail the giant croc emerged from a swamp at the Iberostar Cancun Golf Course and snatched his thigh
Mr Thomson survived after a friend used a golf buggy to repeatedly run over the crocodile until it released its grip.
The 58-year-old father of two needed 200 staples and is recovering in a Mexican hospital, said the Mail.
He added that even after the attack other golfers were still at the scene – with no officials on hand to warn them of the danger nearby.
A member of front desk staff at the Iberostar Cancun Golf Course, which is only a few minutes’ drive from many of the resort’s popular hotels, allegedly told the Mail that colleagues had seen the incident take place and called for an ambulance.
TripAdvisor reviews for the Iberostar Cancun Golf Course warn of crocodiles, some seem to think the sightings are an added interest, with one reviewer writing "This is a beautiful course and in great condition. We saw a few crocodiles and many iguanas."
Another wrote: "Be sure to watch out for lizards and crocs….do NOT use your hand to get a ball out of the rough, use your club, crocs are everywhere."
Some of the reviewers wrote of warning signs on the course. One said: "Be careful of the crocodiles and stay away from their nests, which are roped off and have warning signs. Do not enter those areas looking for a lost ball. Mama croc is there and she will protect her…"
However, Mr Thomson is the second golfer to be bitten by a crocodile at the same golf course in recent months, said the Mail.
