Britons urged to leave Somaliland after FO warning
The Foreign Office has now advised British nationals to leave Somaliland due to a specific threat to Westerners.
The FCO already advised against all travel to Somalia, including Somaliland, but has updated the warning to urge Britons to leave immediately.
The website said: "We are now aware of a specific threat to Westerners in Somaliland and urge any British nationals who remain there against our advice to leave immediately
"As our travel advice continues to make clear, kidnapping for financial or political gain, motivated by criminality or terrorism, remains a threat throughout Somalia."
Last week the Foreign Office urged Britons to leave Benghazi in Beirut in response to a "specific and imminent threat" to Westerners, see previous story.
