Brits advised to be cautious as Cairo protests hot up
As Egypt’s political temperature heats up again, travellers in Cairo are being told to be prepared for unrest as Tahrir Square protests liven up today.
A huge rally is planned for today in the city’s main square, following on from last Friday’s demonstration.
Protestors are unhappy at the lack of urgency in the reforms for the country post President Mubarak and how corrupt officials have yet to be tried for their actions.
The Foreign Office warns of the possibility of further demonstrations being staged in Alexandria and Suez.
It goes to say that there have also been sexual assaults during the demonstrations on Fridays and that Brits should keep away from the main areas of the city and heed local advice on keeping away from trouble spots.
