Brits in Russia warned of possible harassment

Friday, 14 Mar, 2018 0

The UK Foreign Office is warning visitors to Russia to be aware of the possibility of anti-British sentiment or harassment in light of current political tensions.

It comes as Theresa May announced the expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats from the UK after Moscow refused to explain how a Russian-made nerve agent was used on a former spy in Salisbury.

The PM also revoked an invitation to Russia’s foreign minister and said the Royal Family would not attend the Fifa World Cup later this year.

The FCO updated its travel advice saying any British nationals currently in Russia or due to travel in the coming weeks should remain vigilant, avoid any protests or demonstrations and avoid commenting publicly on political developments.

It said while the British Embassy in Moscow is not aware of any increased difficulties for British people travelling in Russia at this time, visitors should follow the security and political situation closely and keep up to date with this travel advice.
