Brits prefer drinking to driving on holiday
British holidaymakers prefer drinking on holiday to driving and only one in five hired a car during their last trip abroad, according to a new survey.
The research by shopping comparison site Kelkoo found that 68% of Brits on holiday will drink alcohol every day, while 33% will not even consider hiring a car on their next trip. Just 22% hired a car on their last holiday.
Nearly a quarter of holidaymakers, 24%, lack the confidence to drive abroad and 8% fear the consequences of potential costly accidents. Just over one in ten, 11%, felt car hire was too expensive.
Around 57% of Brits are keen to enjoy cultural experiences when away, while 6% simply want to flop by the pool.
"The current economic climate has hit the holiday industry hard and this has had a knock-on effect on car rental," said Kelkoo managing director Chris Nixon.
