Brittany Ferries falls foul of advertising watchdogs

Friday, 01 Aug, 2013 0

Advertising watchdogs have upheld a complaint against Brittany Ferries after a customer was unable to book a holiday at the price quoted on its website.

The Advertising Standards Authority told the ferry operator that it had misled customers and that in future it must include the most expensive price customers might be charged when advertising a price range.

Brittany Ferries claimed on its website that a holiday cottage cost from £550 to £700 per week, including sailing to France, arriving on Saturday, from July 6 to August 30. It also stated that weekend and seasonal supplements applied at certain times.

The complainant who wanted to travel in July or August was quoted a total price of £870 and ASA investigators found that certain supplements and surcharges could push up the total price to £940, therefore it ruled the claims "Prices: £550 to £700" was misleading.
