Brussels Airlines with African cuisine on board and a pop-up airport lounge

Starting this January 2026, Brussels Airlines will offer meals inspired by its sub-Saharan African network on long-haul flights from Africa to Brussels. Brussels Airlines is the Africa expert within the Lufthansa Group, serving no fewer than 18 destinations in the region.

By offering regional cuisine, Brussels Airlines aims to make even more passengers feel at home onboard.

With this new initiative, Brussels Airlines enhances the onboard experience by celebrating Africa’s rich culinary heritage. Passengers traveling from sub-Saharan African destinations will be able to enjoy meals inspired by regional flavors, ingredients, and cooking traditions, thoughtfully adapted for inflight service. African cuisine is available in all the classes of Brussels Airlines flights to the continent.

The meal options will rotate regularly. The first dishes to be introduced include Cape Malay braised chicken with cashew nuts, mango, and coriander for Business Class, and Cod Mbongo, a traditional dish from Cameroon, in Economy Class. These menu options are available alongside the airline’s existing inflight menu.

“At Brussels Airlines, we aim to offer a product that we call ‘a boutique hotel in the air.’ That means a tailor-made product that makes everyone feel at home. Offering meals inspired by the rich cuisine of the African continent reinforces that promise even further. Whether passengers want a final taste of home, to hold on to the feeling of their vacation a little longer, or to discover new flavors, we are confident these African-inspired meals will be appreciated,” tells Philip Mortier, Inflight Product Manager, Brussels Airlines.

Expanded lounge to reopen in summer at Brussels Airport

Brussels Airlines is making significant investments in its passenger experience. Only recently, the airline revamped the on-board dining experience with new tableware and service procedures. On flights departing from Brussels, Business Class passengers are also pampered with meals from Belgian Star Chef Glenn Verhasselt.

In a further development, the airlines announced to make a significant investment in its premium passenger experience with a full makeover of THE LOFT, its flagship lounge in the A-zone of Brussels Airport.

The lounge will close in January and is set to reopen by the end of summer 2026. Until the reopening, the carrier is opening a pop-up lounge at Brussels Airport from January 7 and extend the opening hours of its Sunrise Lounge.  With the Pop-up LOFT and the extended opening hours of the Sunrise Lounge, premium passengers will continue to enjoy comfortable facilities until the renovated lounge opens its doors.
