‘Brutal violence’ in Mexico prompts travel warnings
The US State Department warned Americans of the increasing violence in parts of Mexico, saying 1,500 people have died in drug-related incidents this year.
The State Department also cited execution-style killings of both Mexican and US citizens in Tamaulipas, Michoacan, Baja California, Guerrero and other Mexican states.
“US citizens have also been victims of random shootings on major highways outside Mexico City, Nuevo Laredo, Tijuana and other areas throughout Mexico,” said the department.
Dozens of US citizens have been kidnapped in Nuevo Laredo, suggesting a resurgence of kidnappings for ransom, according to the State Department.
