BT to give away free flights
The telecoms supplier BT is reportedly to give away thousands of free flights to customers who sign up for its new broadband internet product.
The Independent newspaper reports that the company will be giving away flights to destinations including New York, Amsterdam and Barcelona, with discounted seats available for passengers to accompany those entitled to free tickets. The promotion runs until the end of June.
The newspaper draws parallels with a similar promotion run some 10 years ago by Hoover; the company ended up paying out more than £20 million after many passengers were unable to book flights and took Hoover to court.
A BT spokesman, confirming that free flights would be available to customers taking up any broadband connection from £19.99 a month, said: “Obviously lessons have been learned from the past and safeguards have been put in place. We are happy that we won’t be in a position where we can’t supply the flights.”
Flights will be available with British Airways, Air France, KLM, easyJet and bmi British Midland.
