BTTF gets off to optimistic start
Tourism leaders attending this year’s British Travel Trade Fair were optimistic about the country’s tourism prospects.
Lord Marshall of Knightsbridge, ex-chairman of British Airways and recently- appointed chairman of VisitBritain, opened the two-day BTTF in Birmingham yesterday.
Lord Marshall said his organisation is on track to achieve an increase in the value of tourism to Britain from £76 billion to £100 billion in five years.
His claims were backed up by representatives from Britain and Ireland’s four national tourist boards, who were attending the show.
This year’s BTTF is expected to be a record year, with 2,700 visitors expected and an increase in exhibitor space of 8%, hosting 400 stands.
Event director Graeme Barnett, said: “Many of the suppliers who have taken part in BTTF in previous years recognise the commercial value of the show and have increased the size of their stands to enhance their return on investment.”
