Budget hotel chain rumbled for misleading price claims
Travelodge has been rapped by advertising watchdogs after it admitted misleading price claims.
A sponsored ad on Google suggested the budget hotel chain had rooms in Edinburgh from £19 per night, but it admitted to the Advertising Standards Authority that although it had sold 14,000 rooms in Edinburgh at that price, it had gone up to £22 by the time the ad was live.
Travelodge amended the price in the ad but the ASA ruled it was still guilty of misleading advertising following a complaint from a consumer.
The ASA said: "We welcomed the fact that they had amended the ad to state that rooms were available from £22 but considered that when the complainant viewed the claim, as there were no rooms available at £19, it was misleading and in breach of the Code."
