Butlins is opening a third upmarket hotel and a celebrity restaurant at its Bognor Regis site next year as part of a 34 million pounds investment in new facilities.

The company will be celebrating its 75th anniversary next year and Bourne Leisure head of retail Allan Lambert said that Butlins was continuing to improve its products.

“We have got some exciting projects for next year and the changes will recognize our British heritage and also recognize that we are a 21st century company.  We are seeing a lot of repeat business and also a lot of people coming to us for the first time,” he said.

The three resorts at Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness achieved  98 per cent occupancy throughout the summer and an average occupancy of 85 per cent throughout 2010 so far.  This is a 12 per cent improvement on the previous year.

Butlins’ investment between 2003 and the end of 2010 will hit around 116 million pounds, with 66 million being spent on accommodation.

Meanwhile, sister company Warner achieved 91 per cent occupancy across its 13 hotels and average prices across the two products rose by six per cent.

“This proves that people are prepared to pay more for high quality products,” said Lambert.
