Butlins resort hit by suspected norovirus outbreak
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is assessing hygiene at the Butlins holiday park resort in Skegness following a suspected norovirus outbreak.
Butlins confirmed a ‘small number of sickness incidents’ at the Lincolnshire park.
The company has undertaken enhanced sanitation measures.
All park operations including food service have remained open, Butlins said.
“In line with our strict hygiene and cleaning standards, we have introduced a few enhanced service measures to ensure everyone can enjoy their stay.”
UKHSA said it was informed of a suspected norovirus outbreak after a number of guests became sick over several days starting last week.
It has been working with Butlins management ‘to respond and prevent further spread.’
An agency spokesperson said there is no evidence yet it was caused by food hygiene issues.
He agency hasn’t confirmed the cause but says symptoms were ‘consistent with norovirus.’
