Cabin crew say ‘give us back our perks’

Tuesday, 21 Jul, 2010 0

British Airways cabin crew say their dispute with British Airways could be over tomorrow if the airline agreed to reinstate their travel perks.

A spokesman for their union Unite said today: "That is the biggest sticking point at the moment.

"If the airline reinstated the travel concessions in full, it would be a significant step forward in this dispute."

Unite is calling for further talks with BA management following the result of a ballot in which only 15 per cent of members accepted what the airline claimed was its  ‘final offer’.

However, BA said it was ‘encouraged’ by the ballot result, which showed that 73 per cent of cabin crew didn’t reject the offer as less than half of Unite’s 11,000 cabin crew members voted.

Unite, which did not make any recommendation to members to accept or reject BA’s latest offer, has not called for further industrial action, insisting instead that it wants further talks with the airline.

BA has agreed to partially restore the travel perks it withdrew from striking staff earlier this year, but senior crew who took part in the industrial action won’t get the same priority for flights as less experienced staff.
