Calls for public ownership of Doncaster Sheffield Airport
South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard has responded as Doncaster Sheffield Airport faces any uncertain future.
Owner Peel Group last week warned the airport could close. There have been calls for the airport to go into public ownership. Coppard won’t rule it out but comes at a ‘huge financial risk’
Over 30,000 people have signed a petition to save the airport.
The Mayor wrote to Peel Group to ‘express my disappointment about their lack of ambition for the airport and their failure to communicate their plans sooner.’
The Mayor fears Peel Group want to shut down the airport and sell it off for housing.
