Cambria Hotels plans big expansion in major US cities
Following the opening of the latest Cambria branded hotel in Washington, DC, Choice Hotels International will press ahead with developing the brand further in top-tier US cities.
Michael Murphy, Choice senior vice president of upscale brands said the company will earmark up to $400 million for expansion with an initial focus on Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
The company hopes to increase the Cambria portfolio from 20 to around 150 by the end of 2016.
Cambria is looking to match rival brands such as Hilton Garden Inn and Courtyard by Marriott.
The newly opened 182-suite hotel in DC is the first Cambria property to be housed in a mixed-use development and the first to be LEED-certified.
Choice Hotels also oversaw an upgrade program for its Comfort Inn and Comfort Suites hotels last year at a cost of around $40 million.
The company franchises over 6,300 hotels in economy, mid-scale and upscale segments in 35 countries encompassing several brands including Sleep Inn, Clarion and Main Stay Suites.
