Canada opens snow fields early

Silver Star in BC Canada opening a week early.

“We are excited to be opening one week early, says Silver Star’s Guest Services & Events Manager Heather McLennan. “Our scheduled opening date was November 24th but with such good early snow we have now bumped it up to this Friday,  November 18th.”

Brad Baker, the resort’s Operations Manager is planning to open, this Friday Nov 18 The Comet Express (Canada’s largest six passenger chairlift), The Summit, Silver Queen lifts and possibly Discovery Park Carpet

Giving access to a variety of advanced, intermediate and easy runs such as Far Out, Sundance, Whiskey Jack, Walt¹s Run, Middle Dipper, Little Dipper, Lower Big Dipper, Constellation, Upper FIS, Comet Trail, Blast Off, Main Street, EZ Street, Skunk Hollow, Roller Coaster, Silver Queen and Creekside.

The Schumann family (who formerly owned and operated Mt Hotham in Victoria ) has invested in excess of $39Cdn million since their November 2001 purchase of Silver Star Mountain Resort.

The resort community of Silver Star Mountain is located just east of the City of Vernon 1200 metres above the Okanagan Valley.

After the initial purchase, the Schumann’s added an additional $15Cdn million in lift infrastructure, a further $4.5 Cdn million in resort services (including new restaurants, a new retail shop, substantial reshaping of ski runs and grooming equipment).

An additional $75 Cdn million (retail value) is being injected into the local economy in new accommodation and investors from around the world (including numerous Australians) are purchasing new Resort Five-star homes.

This winter is the most highly anticipated season in a very long time at Silver Star Mountain Resort. The most exciting news in Canadian skiing this year is Silver Star’s expansion into the never before skied Silver Woods area, which increases the skiable acreage at Vance Creek by a huge 54%!

The new Silver Woods Express chair will whisk passengers up the 1,200 vertical feet (340 meters) in less than 5 minutes, and provide skiers and boarders accesses to more than 360 acres of diverse terrain.

Silver Woods features 10 exciting new runs (mostly intermediate blue runs, but also some black diamonds for those seeking a true challenge).
The expansive new gladed areas at Silver Woods are a dream for those who like weaving through the trees. Each tree that was removed, was hand selected by the resort’s skilled trail crew, to provide the most exhilarating glade experience possible.

Combined with the recognised world-famous Okanagan ‘Champagne Powder’ that falls at Silver Star every winter, it is  one of Canada’s most amazing (and affordable) skiing and riding experiences.

A Ski Max Silver Star adventure costs from $2,475 per person + taxes. Included is return flights to Kelowna (the nearest airport), return transfers, seven nights at Vance Creek Hotel and a Six day Silver Star lift pass. Valid for travel 01 16 February, book and pay by 30 November 2005.
