Cancun drawing more than the party hearty
Built as a tourist resort in the 1970s, Cancan every spring attracts about 200,000 students. The party never stops but the city in Mexico is increasing its attractiveness as a meeting center because of various reasons.
“Spring break in Cancun is, year after year, where the boys and girls are. Though it’s far from the only place for spring break in Mexico, it’s definitely the hottest, and the one where you’ll see the most folks flocking when spring break rolls around,” says About.com Student Travel.
But these days, ease of access and the large number of meeting venues is attracting more meeting planner’s attention.
It is the No. 1 airport in Mexico serving international arrivals.
“All the major airlines fly directly from their hubs to Cancun with more than one frequency a day,” says the Cancun CVB.
The city has one million square feet of meeting and exhibition space with 34,000 hotel rooms at 145 hotels.
In addition to archeological sites such as Chichen Itza and Tulum, the area also has a lot of activities outside of cultural, including more than a dozen golf courses and 50 spas. Night-time activity includes more than 200 restaurants.
Cancun also caters to visitors with five major shopping centers as well as attractive outlets at theCancun International Airport, which is only 30 minutes from the Hotel Zone.
“Because of the dollar-peso ratio, its ROI of quality service vs. price is excellent,” says the CVB.
