Carnival Corp adding fleet-wide energy-saving tech

Tuesday, 05 Aug, 2022 0

Carnival Corporation announced the rollout of technology upgrades across its global fleet to enhance energy savings and reduce fuel consumption.

The ‘Service Power Packages’ upgrades include ongoing installations through 2023 on ships from the company’s nine cruise lines.

The upgrade program delivers an average of 5-10% fuel savings per ship and is expected to reduce fleetwide greenhouse gas emissions by more than 500,000 metric tons each year.

The program is expected to generate over $150 million in annual fuel cost savings.

The Service Power program has been developed over the past six years.

The company customizes the Service Power Package for each ship.

Service Power Packages include upgrades to each ship’s hotel HVAC systems, LED lighting systems and on-demand automated control systems for engine room ventilation.

“This closely aligns with our long-term sustainability and decarbonization goals and is our highest responsibility and top priority,” said Bill Burke, chief maritime officer for Carnival Corporation.
