Carnival plans second summer in Europe
US cruise giant Carnival is to return to cruise in the Mediterranean in summer 2006.
The line is to deploy new-build vessel Carnival Liberty in Europe for the first time this summer and has announced plans to base the ship in the Med again next year.
The 110,000-ton vessel will run a series of 15 12-day itineraries between May 7 and October 22 next year from Civitavecchia in Italy.
The 1,487-cabin ship will sail in the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale in this winter after its maiden season in the Med before returning to Europe next May.
Carnival president and CEO Bob Dickinson said: “Our efforts at expanding our ‘fun ship’ itinerary choices include having an ongoing presence in Europe and we’re delighted hat the Carnival Liberty will retunr to the region with even more exciting Mediterranean voyages next year.”
The Med sailings call at Naples, Dubrovnik, Venice, Messina, Barcelona, Cannes and Livorno.
