Carnival renews money back guarantee program
Carnival Cruise Lines says it will renew its Great Vacation Guarantee program which offers a 110% refund, a future shipboard credit and complimentary transportation home to customers not entirely satisfied with a cruise vacation.
A one of a kind program for the cruise industry, travel agent feedback has been very positive, according to Carnival, with agents calling it an important sales tool to entice first-time cruisers.
In a year since Carnival introduced the policy, the guarantee has been used just 47 times out of 4.5 million guests the cruise line has carried.
Citing the figures, Jim Berra, Carnival’s chief marketing officer said: "You are statistically more likely to date a supermodel than you are to invoke the Great Vacation Guarantee."
"However, we believe it is important to keep the guarantee in place given its effectiveness in communicating to consumers that we stand behind our product and are extremely confident you will have an exceptional vacation experience when you sail with Carnival," he added.
To be eligible for the Great Vacation Guarantee, guests notify the ship’s guest services desk within the first 24 hours of the voyage.
They will receive a full refund of their cruise fare plus an additional 10%, complimentary return air transportation from the next port of call and ground transportation and hotel accommodations if applicable.
The guarantee can be invoked on all three- to eight-day sailings to The Bahamas, the Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Bermuda, Canada and New England until December 31, 2015.
Only US and Canadian residents are eligible and must have a valid passport to return to North America by air.
More details of the program can be found on Carnival’s website.
