Carnival taking the plunge with pools
Resort-style pool areas and WaterWorks aqua parks are being added to Carnival’s eight Fantasy-class ships as part of its $250 million “Evolutions of Fun” refurbishment program, the company says.
“A quintessential part of the Carnival cruise experience centers around the ships’ pools and outdoor decks,” said Vicki Freed, senior vice president of sales and marketing. “With the ‘Evolutions of Fun’ program, we have focused very heavily on making these areas absolutely fabulous.”
The new main pool areas, mid-ship at Lido Deck, will feature a tiled “beach” bordering the circumference, and beach umbrellas providing shaded seating at the pool’s edge.
Two whirlpools will be at each end of the swimming pool, one with a thatched roof.
The Carnival WaterWorks aqua parks will be on the Veranda Deck aft and will feature a four-deck-high, 300-foot-long spiraling tube water slide, and a separate 82-foot-long triple-lane waterslide. There will also be a water spray park for both children and adults.
Both the pool area and Carnival WaterWorks will feature teak decking and lounge chairs.
The Carnival Imagination and Carnival Inspiration will receive these features, as well as “Serenity” adults-only deck areas, later this year. They will be installed on the balance of the line’s Fantasy-class fleet by the end of 2009.
“Evolutions of Fun” is a $250-million product enhancement initiative that began in 2005 and includes renovations to virtually every guest area on the line’s eight Fantasy-class ships.
