Cassani to head up Olympic bid
Barbara Cassani, the former boss of no-frills airline Go, has been chosen to head up London’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Ms Cassani, who was chief executive of the carrier, has been named as chair of the campaign to win the games. The appointment was agreed by the Government, London mayor Ken Livingstone, and the British Olympic committee, with the Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell paying this tribute: “Barbara Cassani has the skills, business acumen and drive to give London the best chance to bring the games to the UK.”
Ms Cassani said: “I have taken this job because I know I can win. London is a world-class city; we can deliver a world-class games. The children of Britain need to get into the pool and on to the track because in 2012 they will be competing for gold – in London.”
For those of you who may be concerned about Ms Cassani’s loyalties, rest assured she is a British passport holder and is married to a British investment banker.
