Catering to smaller groups
Ritz-Carlton is building a 126-room resort on an uninhabited island in the Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean that will cater to small executive board meetings and retreats.
The luxury chain is among those targeting small, high-end groups that in the past may have had to meet in full-service resorts.
More than 90% of the island will be left permanently undeveloped.
Other chains such as Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental are also following the trend of developing resorts in more remote, exotic locations.
