Caterpillars culprit for aborted flight

Sunday, 22 Mar, 2011 0

No, it’s not like the film “Snakes on a Plane” where poisonous creatures killed passengers. But little green caterpillars forced down a plane at Brisbane Airport, according to the Courier-Mail.

The tiny creatures found their way onto the plane’s onboard equipment, forcing a 20-seater Dornier-Werke plane trying to leave Brisbane Airport in Queensland

An engineering inspection found several green caterpillars in the pressure-sensitive instruments.

An ATSB spokesman said the incident would not be further investigated for financial reasons.

"We’re only resourced to undertake so many investigations a year," he said.

Jim Carden, from the Brisbane Airport Corporation, said he could not recall a similar incident.
