Cathay Pacific implementing fuel surcharge

Wednesday, 01 Oct, 2018 0

Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon flights departing Hong Kong will be subject to a fuel surcharge fee from next month.

The announcement of fuel surcharges comes after the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department lifted a ban on imposing extra fees to recover fuel costs which had stood for more than two years.

Cathay said fuel surcharges take effect from November 2 and would be HK$652 (US$83) for long haul flights to the South West Pacific, North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Customers will pay HK$146 (US$19) for tickets om regional short haul routes such as Taiwan and Japan.

Cathay says these amounts will be adjusted on a monthly basis depending on current fuel costs.

Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon carried 34.8 million passengers last year, nearly half of all passengers that pass through Hong Kong International Airport.

The airport is served by more than 120 airlines.

Hong Kong Airlines said it would analyse ‘market conditions and fuel price fluctuations’ before deciding whether to add a fuel surcharge to airfares.
